The U.S. Environmental
Protection Agency (EPA) in April 2010 required the "Lead Safety for Renovation,
Repair and Painting" (RRP) certification for contractors performing renovation
work in residential dwellings or child-occupied facilities built before 1978. Any renovation work
(including painting) done for compensation, which disturbs painted surfaces in
residential dwellings or child-occupied facilities built before 1978. Renovator
certifications are due for refresher training before expiration. Expiration
is early 2015 in most cases. If you are a builder, plumber, electrician, install HVAC,
install siding, tear down walls and disturb paint-you are due to be
re-certified and complete this 4-hour refresher class if you completed the
original class in 2010. This refresher class explains how to comply with EPA's RRP
rules including regulations, lead-safe work practices, cleaning and record-keeping.
After passing an end-of-class exam, students receive RRP Certificates. All
licensed RRP renovators should submit their re-certification application to the
EPA immediately to help ensure timely re-certification. This convenient
re-certification is good for five years. Students are required to bring
their current
certification to the refresher course.
